Proceeds Benefit Branches of Hope Cancer Patient Fund
Montpelier, VT (July, 2015) - More than 3,000 people attended Do Good Fest 2015 over the weekend, helping to raise $15,000 for Branches of Hope, the cancer patient fund at Central Vermont Medical Center.
The proceeds came from parking fees at the festival and from a matching grant from the National Life Group Foundation. The money will help patients with financial obligations that are difficult to pay when they're out of work for treatment, including utilities, insurance copayments or transportation.
"We've heard heart-wrenching stories of patients who had to travel hundreds of miles for special treatment but couldn't afford it because they were out of work," said National Life Group President and CEO Mehran Assadi. "Branches of Hope stepped in and paid for hotel stays or transportation costs. One of our own employees recently benefited from the cancer patient fund. As a member of this community, we're proud that we're able to do something to help our neighbors and friends during a stressful time of their lives."
The second annual Do Good Fest, presented by National Life Group and The Point Radio Network, was held Saturday on National Life's lawn in Montpelier. It featured a lively performance by O.A.R., in addition to appearances by The Alternate Routes, Panama Wedding, and Patti Casey & Colin McCaffrey.
The day also included children's activities, a nonprofit village, food trucks, and a beer tent. The evening was capped by a fireworks show.
In addition to The Point and National Life, the Do Good Fest was cosponsored by Seven Days, Harpoon Brewery, Montpelier Alive and the National Life Group Foundation.
